Design | Tuckbox furniture

Tuckbox_T.D.C_06Wanting to create furniture that embraced the shadows and light of Australian seasons, with simple lines and a modern character. That’s what industrial designer Dan de Groot had in mind, by starting his own furniture business in Melbourne, Australia. Each piece of contemporary furniture that bares the TUCKBOX label is born from a love of making – from the idea through to realisation, experimenting and marrying thoughtful design with considered creation. Check out their beautiful! collection Klein.

I love Scandinavian design. In particularly the vintage Danish design produced in the fifties/sixties last century. What I also love are the great Scandinavian Brands of today, House Doctor is one of my favorites. Today I’ll show you some inspiration of their latest collection ‘Moments 2014′.

‘House Doctor welcomes you into a world of contrasts, of light and darkness, decadence and minimalism. Moments 2014 celebrates the beauty of imperfection zooming in on the essence of print, expression and design. Enjoy perfect Imperfections’.

Palomar Restaurant is located in the heart of London’s Soho district. The Palomar serves the food of modern day Jerusalem, with influences from the rich cultures of Southern Spain, North Africa and The Levant.

At the front of the restaurant you find a zinc Kitchen Bar, that overlooks the chefs. A mosaic marble floor leads you to the dining room at the back of the restaurant. The intimate space has a parquet floor, dark oak panelled walls, banquette seating in royal blue leather and features a skylight allowing natural light.

With the intention of conjuring up the ‘romantic and nostalgic feelings of bygone days’. The restaurant’s brand identity uses a contrast of hand drawn script and uppercase extended sans-serif typography. They’ve chosen for a light and dark color palette, uncoated paper and the gloss of a gold foil, to reflect the classic details of the restaurant’s interior. The new identity is looking very nice, love the color combination and the golden details. Also very lovely in combination with the marble tables.

Spotlight: Kirstie van Noort

Kirstie van Noort (1986) is a young Dutch designer. She sees design as a way to communicate a certain process or the story behind a material. When she is intrigued by one of these a study starts by making detailed tests and experiments. The outcome of the research could form the foundation of the concept behind a final product or result in the research itself.
