After a year long renovation the Story Restaurant based in the centre of Helsinki reopened its doors. It’s located in a old city market hall. Story offers straightforward market hall food, enjoying the ingredients found at the market hall and the market square. Story also boasts Helsinki’s finest outdoor seating. Set between the sea and the market hall, the tables offer views of the brand new Helsinki Sky Wheel, as well as the sea. Story treats can be enjoyed on the spot, or taken away.
Story opened its doors in June 2014, together with the renovated Old Market Hall. The hall was first opened in 1889 and is a cultural heritage site protected by the National Board of Antiquities. Story is situated in the middle of the market hall, a space originally used for loading horse carriages. The interior decoration fits the original architecture, but brings a new, fresh flavour with a modern touch.
Story’s bread and patisserie products come from a local bakery and a local coffee roastery has prepared a special Story blend. The drink list includes bottles from small wineries that have been especially picked with the menu in mind.
The restaurant is designed by the creative studio of Joanna Laajisto. She did a very nice job making the space look like a welcoming light restaurant, including elements from the history of the 1889 market building.

Meet Eddie and Richa, owners of this lovely home in Melbourne. I don’t know how, but a lot of items I post seems to be and established in Melbourne. And a lot of them are also created and realized by interior design firm Hecker Guthrie, and again so is this one. I think I’m a bit of a fan.
The couple, transformed their apartment in a personal and comfy space. A very important aspect was to reflect their Indian heritage in their interior. ‘Our original intent with this house was to add colour and make it match out Indian heritage, but Hecker Guthrie took us on a journey of designing for simplicity and elegance, and layering in the detail in subtle ways’ says Eddie. Though they say it was a little confronting to begin with, the pair welcomed the challenge, and are thrilled with the results.

Love the beautiful hand made pottery by Mt. Washington.
I bought these beauty’s last weekend on a local fair market. It was a hard choice to make because all of the earrings they had were so stunning. I finally choose the red ones. These earrings are made by Yifat Bareket, a jewelry designer who works and lives in Israel. She makes the most beautiful earrings, necklaces and rings with gemstones from Israel. I love her work.

“Sharing is the new owning”. That’s a quote I hear about a lot recently. And I like that idea, why buying all those products we don’t really need instead of spending our money way more smarter and share more. Feast or Merit based in Melbourne also liked that idea. They came up with a great concept…
There’s a story behind Feast of Merit. They were inspired by a tribe in Northern India who invented the ‘Feast of Merit’. Those members of the Naga people lead a modest lifestyle, but when one member strikes it rich, that lucky person can choose to throw a party for everyone, which continues for weeks until all the money is spend. Everyone shares in the wealth. That’s also the idea behind ‘Feast of Merit’ restaurant. It’s an initiative of YGAP (Y-generation Against Poverty), a charity that supports youth education and leadership projects in Malawi, Ghana, Rwanda, Bangladesh, Cambodia and Australia, who put the profits from their business into aid projects. continue reading

Moomah Cafe in New York has reopened its door in 2012, it was actually a closed business but reopened again. Moomah is not an typical cafe, it’s invented especially for children and their parents. So many busy Manhattan mothers are always trying to dig up some time to meet with friends for a cup of coffee or a quick bite. Now they can.
